At Brander, wine and art have always been intertwined. The Brander Museum of Folk Art (BMOFA), founded and curated by Fred Brander, offers guests a rare opportunity to explore one of the most distinctive private collections of Mexican folk art in California.
Fred was born in Argentina, yet his life’s journey has tied him deeply to Mexico. Over decades of travels, specifically Southern Mexico; he built lasting friendships with artists and communities. The museum reflects not just a collection of objects, but a celebration of the traditions & artistry he has been entrusted to share.
Housed in a 1,500-square-foot gallery on our estate, adjacent to our tasting room; the museum gallery showcases over 35 rotating displays of vibrant, handcrafted works. Each piece reflects decades of Fred’s travels through Oaxaca and Southern Mexico, where he sought out local artists and preserved traditions passed from generation to generation. Expect everything from painted wood carvings and clay figures to straw weavings, tiles, and intricate metalwork.
Our current exhibition, Tesoros de Jalisco, highlights treasures from the western Mexican state—an evolving display that connects culture, artistry, & history in striking form.
This immersive gallery visit is paired with a tasting of our acclaimed estate wines. Begin your visit with a seated wine tasting flight; choose from All-White, Mixed, or Reserve, guided by one of our hosts. Following your tasting on our scenic patio, enjoy a semi-guided walk through the museum, where wine, art, & storytelling come together.
This new public experience marks an exciting chapter at Brander: a chance to savor both our estate wines and the cultural legacy Fred Brander has been building for decades.
